Slow Feeders & Pet Bowls

All NES CERAMICS slow feeders are wheel-thrown ceramic bowls featuring raised ridges on the inside. Instead of devouring a meal from a flat dish in seconds, pets work around the contours of the bowl for a calm, evenly paced meal.

65 pieces available

Slow feeders from the studio

Each bowl is individually hand-thrown on the potter's wheel, finished with lead-free glazes, and twice high-fired for maximum durability. This is not mass production. Because every piece is made individually, each carries its own identity — from different clay bodies and dimensions to a wide range of glazes that can look different every single time. No two pieces are ever identical.

From the first lump of clay to glazing and product photography: every single step is done entirely by hand by one person — without outsourcing or third-party manufacturing.

One dog, two feeders, one unhurried meal.

4 Reasons to Switch to a Slow Feeder

  1. Prevents Bloat & Indigestion Slowing down the eating pace prevents excessive air swallowing, significantly reducing the risk of choking, gagging, bloat, and uncomfortable post-meal vomiting.
  2. Promotes Better Digestion & Weight Management Eating at a steady pace allows the brain to naturally register fullness. This aids smoother digestion, improves nutrient absorption, and supports long-term weight management.
  3. Mental Stimulation & Enrichment Turning mealtimes into a gentle, rewarding puzzle keeps your pet's mind engaged, curbing boredom and promoting a sense of calm and satisfaction.
  4. Prevents Whisker Fatigue (Cat-Friendly Design) The feeder features a shallow, wide profile with a low outer rim. Sensitive whiskers won't press against the sides during feeding, preventing discomfort and keeping food easily accessible.

Unique Studio Pottery — Not Mass Produced

Every bowl starts as a single lump of clay on the wheel. The inner rings are opened and pulled entirely by hand without molds or factory templates:

  • One-of-a-Kind from One Hand: From raw clay on the wheel to the final photo, every piece is made entirely by the same person — no third-party sourcing or external outsourcing.
  • Clay & Glaze: Different clay bodies and a wide variety of glazes ensure that colors and textures vary beautifully from piece to piece.
  • Size & Design: Ridge heights and diameters differ subtly, making every bowl a true original. The exact item shown in the product photos is the exact piece delivered.
Every ridge is thrown, not moulded.

Ergonomic Designs for Every Pet

  • Anti-Spill Rim (Special Model): Designed with a curved inner lip to keep mealtimes tidy. As your pet eats, the inward slope guides loose kibble and wet food back into the channels, preventing messes and keeping floors clean.
  • Classic Open Rim: Crafted with a smooth, low edge for effortless access. This makes it exceptionally comfortable for cats (whisker-friendly) and pets that prefer a wide, open bowl.
  • Heavy, Stable Base: Unlike lightweight plastic bowls that slide across the floor, ceramic has natural weight. Specific models are thrown extra heavy to stay firmly in place, even with the most enthusiastic eaters.
  • Smooth, Rounded Ridges: Special attention is given during throwing and trimming to ensure all ridges and edges are softly rounded, protecting sensitive noses and tongues.
The dog sizes start with a lot more clay.

Lead-Free Glazes

Your pet's health comes first. Every bowl is finished with lead-free glazes designed for daily contact with wet food, dry kibble, raw diets, or water.

No two glazes come out the same.

Easy to Clean

Non-porous glazed ceramic remains hygienic and won't scratch, preventing bacteria from building up like it can in plastic dishes.

  • Care Instructions: While the high-fired stoneware is dishwasher safe, hand washing is recommended for extra gentle care.
  • Hand Washing Tip: Warm water and a standard dish brush or bottle brush easily reach into every hand-turned channel for a quick rinse.
Kibble in the channels, not in a pile.

Which Size Suits Which Pet?

  • Cat & Small Dog Bowls: Shallow dishes, roughly the width of a saucer, with low edges to protect sensitive whiskers and fit smaller muzzles.
  • Medium & Large Dog Bowls: Wider, deeper, and heavier to accommodate larger jaws and heartier portions.
  • Extra-Wide Bowls: Crafted with maximum surface area — ideal for larger dog breeds, heartier portions, enthusiastic eaters who need room to maneuver, multi-cat households, or shared mealtimes.
  • Matching Sets: Matching sets featuring a food bowl and a water bowl are also available.
  • Tip: Since every bowl is individually thrown on the wheel, exact dimensions and shapes vary slightly. Precise measurements can be found directly on the product photos to help you pick the right size.

Made one at a time, so the shelf changes

These are thrown in small batches between other work, so what is available keeps changing. The label on each piece tells you whether that exact one can still be bought. Sold pieces stay on the page as examples of earlier work: open one and you can ask for something similar. Because every bowl is made by hand, that is always a new piece of its own, never an identical copy.
